[19] The 169,000-square-foot (4-acre) building originally housed the late 19th century United States. Custom house. [20] Built in the early 1880s, the Italian Revival style building opened in 1885. Over the years, the building has served as Memphis` main customs office, federal courthouse, and most recently, the U.S. post office. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.[22] [23] [24] U.S. News & World Report ranks Memphis Law 138th among U.S. law schools in its 2020 ranking. News & World Report]2023 USNWR Law School Rankings: This Year vs. Last Year (+/-) [Spivey Consulting] Memphis Law Transparency Transparency`s underemployment score is 23.4%, indicating the percentage of the class of 2013 who are unemployed, seeking an additional degree, or working in non-professional, short-term or part-time employment nine months after graduation. [30] 83.1% of the class of 2013 were employed in some way, while 15.3% had been unemployed for nine months. [2] The Faculty of Law has graduated more than 5,000 students since its inception and currently has approximately 314 students and twenty-six full-time faculty. [9] It is consistently named the “highest score” in legal education by National Jurist magazine. In addition, it has a placement rate, so 83% of graduates held long-term jobs within ten months of graduation (class of 2016-2018), with 68% held when admission to the bar was required. [10] In the Winter 2018 issue of preLaw, the University of Memphis School of Law received an A grade in the list of “Best Law Schools.” [11] PreLaw also recently included Memphis Law on its 2018 Health Law Honour Roll. [12] Again, it is time to ask a very pertinent question: how are prospective law students supposed to distinguish between law schools when there are so many links in the rankings? In the 2023 ranking, there are 25 draws in the top 100 only. Not only is this not helpful, but it does students a disservice before law school.

In the north wing, administrative and faculty offices are located on the second and third floors. On the first floor there is a student lounge, study areas and a bookstore for law students. The lowest level of the North Wing contains the University of Memphis Legal Clinic, locker rooms, and student organization offices. Thanks to digital security measures, students, faculty and staff have 24/7 access to the law school, study rooms and library. In this segment of the ranking, among too many connections to even name, we see by far the largest double-digit gains and the largest losses. We anticipate that annual leadership of the deans will begin shortly after the release of the official U.S. News ranking. Deans from some of the schools listed below may soon be vying for their jobs. The law school joined the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) in 2001.

[7] The Tennessee Supreme Court met at the University of Memphis School of Law on November 4, 2010. [8] In September 2012, the Faculty of Law celebrated its half-hundredth anniversary.
