NBC renewed Law & Order: Criminal Intent for a fourth season on May 12, 2004. On Sundays during the 2003–04 television season, Law & Order: CI went undefeated against regular competition 18–49 in its third season, becoming the only NBC regular series to win that time slot in the past eight years. Former Law & Order actor Chris Noth appears in the episode “Stress Position” as Detective Mike Logan before returning to the cast for the fifth season.[4] On a broadcast network, Law & Order: Criminal Intent viewers decided the fate of Detective Robert Goren`s nemesis, Nicole Wallace (Olivia d`Abo): whether she lives or dies at the end of the episode “Great Barrier” (originally aired on October 17, 2004). Two versions of the episode were filmed before voting began on October 6 and the end of October 20, 2004. East Coast viewers saw Wallace live; Spectators on the West Coast watched them die. More than 116,000 viewers voted online. “We`re thrilled with the response,” said René Balcer, Show Runner and Executive Producer. “We`ve always seen this as a gift to our fans to thank them for their continued commitment to the show. Live or die, we will respect their decision. The decision to live Wallace became an outcome, but Wallace was reportedly killed in season seven by Detective Goren`s mentor, Dr. Declan Gage (John Glover).[5] But after faking Declan Gage and faking her own death, Wallace reappeared in Paris in 2013 in the episode “Catacombs” of the series Jo with Jean Reno and Jill Hennessy by René Balcer. Stars Vincent D`Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance returned for the fourth season.
Towards the middle of the season, star Vincent D`Onofrio fainted twice from exhaustion, once on set and once at home. [1] Writers René Balcer and Elizabeth Benjamin won an Edgar Award for Best Episode in a Television Series for the episode “Want”. Nearly three months before the season four finale, it was announced that Chris Noth would join the show in season five due to his health issues, alternating with D`Onofrio.[2] [3] When a prison guard is murdered, Eames and Goren investigate, only to discover that they have teased the feathers of Mike Logan (special guest Chris Noth), a Staten Island police officer who happens to be with the nurse in prison. Logan joins the duo to find out exactly what`s going on in prison.
